Phased Array Gear teeth examination for fatigue related defects.

ITS has developed a specific ultrasonic phased array inspection solution which allows for the detection and monitoring of fatigue related defects in and around the base of a gear tooth.

This inspection is normally done using fluorescent magnetic particle inspection, which is perfect for finding small defects such as fatigue cracking of hardend teeth surfaces. However, when monitoring of such indications is required a permanent form of recording is required. Especially when keeping track of length and depth is of importance.

Hence the development of a specialized ultrasonic phased array technique. Where the teeth are scanned using a unique scanner and tandem probe setup, including an encoding mechanism so a detailed scan can be collected and stored for off-site evaluation and trend analysis.
